Ranger Guardian works by scanning (in real-time) your PC screen memory and keyboard buffer for images and certain keywords and phrases that are stored in a series of carefully researched, built-in libraries. You can add and remove words and phrases from these libraries to best meet the needs of your establishment. When a violation is detected on a PC that is protected by Ranger Guardian, the client portion of the software takes a screen capture. This is sent along with the user name, PC name, date, time and offending word or phrase to the Ranger Guardian Server for immediate action.
Unlike traditional blocking and filtering systems, Ranger Guardian scans text in every application, including Microsoft Word, e-mail, chat rooms and MSN Messenger.
Whether a computer is used off- or online, every word that appears on the screen is monitored.
To allow for quick and easy management, Ranger Guardian ranks violations by severity, top violators and top phrases. Potentially life-threatening violations can trigger pop-up alerts to senior staff - calling for instant attention.
Violations can be viewed by the administrator from any PC at any time, facilitating flexibility and immediacy of response.
Administrators can customise libraries with extra words and phrases, or adapt the severity coding according to pastoral concerns.
A web-log allows administrators to instantly check new Internet sites accessed, so that unsuitable sites can be blocked as necessary. All visited web sites are logged, providing evidence of off-task activities.
Any misuse that takes place on a PC while it is disconnected from the network or taken out of school is automatically recorded and reported as soon as the PC is re-connected to the network.
