Ranger for Networks: User, Computer and Web Activity Logging
Once the Ranger software is installed onto the workstation, it will start collecting information about the computer, logged on users and the websites visited. The information collected is sent to the Ranger server.
The Ranger client constantly monitors the computer and user for actions. Every action recorded is categorised into one of the following event types; Security, User, Computer or Web.
Depending on the type of event different amounts of information will be collected. For all event types there is mandatory information such as the username, computer name, date and time, action. If the event includes additional information like a website address then URL is also saved.
The Ranger server then processes this information updating the real-time network view and at the same time displaying the events in chronological order in the status log.
Viewing data in the Status log:
LAN Ranger's status log, allows you to monitor events as they happen. During busy times high volumes of data maybe recorded making it difficult to read.
To reduce the amount of information displayed a query tool can be used. When used, the current log is captured in its current state, the events can then be reviewed for refined further using built in filters, searched against defined values or input text.
Analysing Data and producing management reports:
Information gathered by Ranger server can be used and presented in a number of ways.
Ranger Graphs can show time based graphs, live application use or licence utilisation.
HTML Reports are split in two categories. Security violations highlight by type, user or - security events logged within the defined time range. Usage Analysis reports allow data mining of users, computers and program usage.
