Installing RRC onto a Terminal server

To configure RRC for Terminal services

  1. Download RRC 10.50 or above onto the Terminal server
  2. Once Downloaded to the Terminal Server perform one of the following depending on the Terminal Server Operating System:

Windows 2003\2000 TS Server: Choose Start – Settings – Control Panel – Add or Remove Programs – Add New Program – Browse to the RRC Setup.exe file and Click ok.
Windows 2008 TS Server: Choose Start – Settings – Control Panel – “Install Application on Terminal Server” option – Browse to the RRC Setup.exe file and Click ok.
  3. Select to install the Student Component onto the Terminal Server and complete the installation.
  4. The next time a Terminal Services Session is started the RRC Student will load in the session.

Connecting to a RRC Student running in a Terminal server session

The Tutor can use different methods to connect to the Students running in the Terminal Server Sessions, see details below:

Using the “Connect to Room” method

The preferred method to connect to RRC Students running in a Terminal Server environment is using the new “Connect to Room” option. Using this method it is possible to configure the Students running in the Terminal Server sessions to be located in a Particular room depending on the User logged onto the Session.

When the Tutor is then configured to connect to the same Room the Tutor will automatically connect to the RRC School Students located in the Room.

Using the “Connect to Known list” method

Using this method the Teacher can start the Tutor and select the “Modify Known list” option to browse for available Student machines. A Client Name Prefix can also be added to help locate only the required RRC Students.

The Browse will include the Students running in the Terminal Server Sessions allowing the Teacher to choose and connect to only the required Students.

Configuring the RRC School Student Terminal Services options
In some environments it may be required to change the Base Port value for the RRC School Students to use or to change the method to identify the Student running in the Terminal Server session.
1.    Start the RRC Configurator on the Terminal Server
2.    Select the Terminal Services option, here you can configure the following:

Base Port – Default value is 5000
Student Name – If left blank this will default to using the ClientName variable.

Note: When entering the Student name you must include at least one Environment Variable.
  1. Click Ok to save and apply the configuration.
