Question
Is it possible to store the Remote control shared data file contents on a network share?
Resolution
Yes, it is possible but only with version 9.02 and above.
Obtain the correct version of Remote Control, and install the tutor console as Administrator onto a machine.
Once installed - access the registry editor on the same machine under Local machine create the registry key and values as below:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Productive Computer Insight\PCICTL\ConfigList
The exact steps to make Ranger Remote Control read from HKLM rather than HKCU, please follow the below steps.
Add the below String registry Key value to the Tutor machine
Registry location: hklm\software\productive computer insight\pcictl\
ValueName: NSSuseHKLM
Value: 1
Instructions
Create your network share e.g. RRCshare, allowing the relevant file permissions for your teachers to be able to access.
Open up your tutor console for the first time, make some changes e.g. create a client list. Then close the console and browse to the local Remote control directories shared data folder, and copy its contents and paste it into the new share you've created.
Re- open the Tutor Console, and via the main toolbar select -> School -> Configuration -> Administration -> Security.
From here ensure that used shared data file is ticked.
Then access from the same window Administration -> Profile -> and edit the default profile named "Ranger Remote Control".
Select File Location -> Advanced.
Ensure that the file locations for both the client file and the group file point to the share you've created e.g. //<servername>/<newsharename>/<filename>
Save your changes, and exit the settings window, and make some modifications to say the class list.
Testing
Deploy the tutor console to another machine on the network, ensuring the same settings are as the those of the above.
If the above is true then you should be able to see the same settings as the original tutor machine, make some changes on the new tutor machine, close the application down.
Open back the tutor console on the original tutor machine and the new settings should be synchronised.
Applies To
RRC v9.02 and above
