Question
How do I upgrade to the latest version of Ranger for Network / Ranger Primary, as I have purchased Upgrade Protection for this product?
Symptoms
Our Ranger for Networks is fairly out of date.
Cause
To obtain the download file for the latest version, you would need to create or login to your online account which is associated to your school.
Once you've downloaded the new setup file, place it somewhere you can get access to it from your main Ranger Server.
Backup Process:
Before you proceed to run the new installation, we advice you to backup your existing Ranger Configuration which can be done using a tool within your existing Ranger Directory, called configman.exe. Which is a straight forward tool, backup your configuration outside your Ranger Directory.
Run your standard network backups.
Upgrade Process:
To upgrade, sit directly on your main server (no remote / terminal services methods). Run the setup file and choose upgrade, follow the upgrade wizard to complete the process.
Once you've upgraded Ranger on your main server, any other servers you have with Ranger installed on should automatically update itself.
With regards to the client machines with Ranger on, they will update itself when they are next logged into - this may require a reboot and take longer than usual to login as it is updating it's files.
Important Note:
Depending on the time and version differences, you may see some differences in the default Ranger Groups, this is why we always recommend customers to backup their configuration before executing the installation or upgrade
