Question
How do I improve the speed between tutor and student machines?
Resolution
Improving performance over slower links
When using Remote Control over a slower link (such as Dialup Modem or ISDN), you might want to improve the level of performance and the speed of drawing.
Summary
Feel free to try one of the following options:
1) Increase the Cache size at the Tutor machine
From the main toolbar, select view -> current settings.
From the new window that opens up expand Remote Control -> View and increase the cache size, save the setting, and test the performance.
2) Decrease the Max Colour Depth
From the main toolbar, select view -> current settings.
From the new window that opens up expand Remote Control -> View and decrease the Colour depth to 256 colours and view the Client again and check the performance
3) Turn on Video Skipping
Remote Control can now be configured for Viewing performance. The Control program will not display Client screen updates if a subsequent update to the area of the screen is made. Un-ticking the box will result in all Client screen updates being displayed at the Control.
From the main toolbar, select view -> current settings.
From the new window that opens up expand Remote Control -> View and Check the Video Skipping option
4) Turn off any Graphics Mode in the Operating System
When connecting to a client to view the machine, any extra graphic information on the screen will slow the viewing performance. Turning off any Windows graphical effects will speed up the screen drawing. For example, the Graphical Effects you get by default on Windows XP can significantly reduce performance.
