Using NetBeans with Ranger for Networks

Question

Can I run NetBeans with an alternate user directory?

Symptoms

When starting NetBeans with Ranger security applied you recieve an error saying "unable to create user directory"

Cause

The NetBeans application attempts to create a user directory in a location denied to Ranger clients whenever it starts

Resolution

Create the user directory in a location available to the Ranger client

Instructions

Specify the new location for the NetBeans userdir via the userdir option when starting NetBeans

netbeans.exe --userdir C:\MyOtherUserdir

Testing

After amending the shortcut attempt to start the NetBean application
