Disable Ranger from interacting with open/save file dialogs

In Ranger 4.4 it is possible to prevent Ranger from interacting with the open/save dialogs on a per application basis. Some users have been experiencing a problem where Office applications would either open the first file in the users home directory when they use the open dialog or when Ranger was typing in the default open/save path it would stutter and take a number of seconds to complete.

It is important to note that if you disable Ranger from modifying the file open/save dialog then you must ensure that the program can be configured to accept an alternative location from the default which is typically somewhere on the local drive. We have included the Office Registry keys for 97, 2K and XP which set the open/save locations to be the same as the path set in Ranger Administrator Security Groups Drives Default Open/Save Path.

To disable Ranger first find the preshell**.rrg files and remove the remarks next to the registry key values which specify the file open/save locations.

Then modify the Ranger.dat file, find the section to DefPathDefaultExes, by default we have included the main Office application file names. For each application added, a numeric value needs to be assigned, if you are adding a new application then increase the last assigned value by one and then modify the count value to include the new application. Note: If you are adding a new application then use LAN Ranger to verify the Application Name because the Ignore values are case sensitive.

After modifying these files you will need to reboot the client machine for these changes to take affect. To test, open the application and go to file open or save dialog and verify that Ranger is no longer modifying the path.
