After upgrading to Ranger 4.4 users may experience problems with Dreamweaver 4 and MX when trying to insert images or modify the background images. Security Violations are also detected in LAN Ranger when the dialog screen appears, Ranger continually interacts with the file dialog removing any text the user enters.

This was actually a result of a fix implemented in Ranger 4.3 that was released in a patch and is now included in Ranger 4.4. To secure access to UNC locations all "file://" are considered illegal which is the first part of the URL path in Dreamweaver.

To allow Dreamweaver to operate without causing these security violations you may need to add a number of exceptions (minimum 2) into Ranger Administrator which will make Ranger ignore certain file paths. Open Ranger Administrator go to Edit Settings then select the "General Tab" then click Add to create a new exception.

Exception 1.) "file:///"
Exception 2.) "file://////"

After you have added these exceptions apply them and then try using Dreamweaver again. Check in LAN Ranger status logs that there are no more security violations occurring, if so either modify the exceptions already entered or more likely add another entry to specifically stop the remaining illegal file dialog errors.
