What are the recommended Ranger security and policy configurations for different groups?

The full installation version of Ranger 4 is pre-configured with security and policy settings for the following groups:

  • Domain Users
  • Domain Admins
  • RangerSecureUsers
  • RangerManagers
  • RangerStaff
  • SoloAdmin
  • SoloStandard
  • SoloStaff


A Ranger 1, 2 or 3 network that is upgraded to Ranger 4 will not change any security settings for existing groups. Additionally the default pre-configured policy settings for groups will not be implemented to avoid conflicts with system policies. It is recommended however that once installed and tested, policy settings are migrated out of the Config.pol policy system to the Ranger policies system for added reliability and ease of administration.
