Question

Why do I not get sound when I replay a show which included audio narrative?

Symptoms

RRC Record allows you to add narrative to the recording. When you replay the show you do not hear any audio.

Cause

There could be a number of reasons why there is no audio playback, here are the most likely possibilities.

  1. There is no audio capability on the machine you are playing the file back on.
  2. There was no audio input capability on the machine you were recording on
  3. The configuration settings on the tutor when you were recording were not set to include audio.
  4. The configuration settings on the tutor when you show the replay were not set to included audio.
  5. When you configure Show Replay, ensure that the Enable Audio Support is enabled.
  6. The audio playback has been muted.

Resolution

Test each possibility in turn by following the instructions below.

Instructions

1. Using your preferred media software play a music file in order to test the your computers hardware and audio settings. If there is no sound then your computer does not have the required hardware or your speakers are turned off. Either way this problem would negate any issue with RRC.

2. On the computer you are recording on, open RRC Tutor, go to view > current settings > audio and tick 'test' then talk or clap trying to generate a sound which can be detected on the volume bar. Modify the volume threshold and microphone input to maximise the sensitivity. You should be able to visually and audibly see the audio being recorded. If this does not work then you mic is not connected properly or it is turned off.

3. On the computer you are recording on, open RRC Tutor, go to school > record, check that the include audio is enabled.

4. On the computer you are recording on, open RRC Tutor, go to view > current settings > audio and confirm that the audio is enabled. You can then set the transmission format to the preferred setting. Please note that high quality settings can affect screen update performance.

5. On the computer you are showing the replay from open RRC Tutor, to go show replay. RRC Record Audio Show Replay, then confirm that the Enable Audio Support is enabled.

6. On the Replay controls check that the audio has not been muted. This is represented by the speaker icon with a red circle with a slash over the speaker. Toggle the button to enable audio.

Testing

Test the microphone settings in the RRC Tutor, then create a new show, once you have a new media file, use the show replay option to replay the file on your local computer before testing it on remote computers.
