Question

Can additional virtual drives be mapped during Solo logon?

Symptoms

N/A

Resolution

Yes, to set up additional virtual drives that point to different locations on the local hard disk during Solo logon, make the following modifications to the Ranger.dat file.

This feature is intended to allow users access to "common" areas of the hard disk such as shared work, templates or clipart files.

E.g. Mapping an "S" drive to the c:toolkit directory to allow users access to this directory although they wouldn't normally have access to the "C" drive.

Important: this feature must be used in conjunction with the "Drive" security of Ranger to allow users access to the corresponding virtual drives (i.e. users must be given access to any virtual drive mapped)

To configure:

Edit the Ranger.dat from the machine's Ranger directory.

Locate the Solo section and add/edit the following lines.

Modify the following lines:

substcountnumber of drives to map
substcountdrive letterpath

E.g. substcount1
subst1Oc:\program files\ranger\commonresources

or substcount2
subst1Oc:\program files\ranger\commonresources
subst2Sc:toolkit

Save the changes.

Please Note:

  • This functionality uses the DOS "subst" command to map the drive during login. Notification of additional drive mapping will be shown during logon via the Solo logon progress indicator.
  • This feature will only work when Solo is running on Windows 9x machines.
  • This feature is available from LPTPLGN.EXE version 4.0.3.6 (June 2001).
