Question

How do I install Ranger Outpost to work on a server with two network cards?

Symptoms

Ranger Outpost is installed on the server however it will only allow either external or Internal connections but not both.

Cause

The Ranger Outpost service can only bind to one network card, this means that if you have two cards in your server then ranger can only communicate through one of them.

This could cause connectivity issues if there are two networks cards installed on the server in order to support two IP ranges.

Resolution

To resolve this issue you need to configuring routing on your server between the two cards. You need to configure your server to forward information coming in on the port Ranger Outpost is running on on one card to the second card.

Instructions

  1. Install Ranger Outpost and attach it to the external IP address when the option appears
  2. Once installed Ranger Outpost will bind to this IP address on the port you have specified.
  3. You will now need to set up port forwarding from the internal IP address to the one Ranger Outpost is configured so the internal connections can effectively talk to the external port.

Testing

First confirm that Ranger Outpost will connect using the test account on the server. Then confirm that it can connect from both your external source and your internal source.
