Question

What do I do if I receive a message saying a Ranger installation or upgrade package has expired?

Symptoms

N/A

Resolution

Instructions

Ranger setup packages contain an built in expiry date. This is to ensure customers install and upgrade to the latest versions of our software.

The date check occurs at the start of each installation or upgrade package and checks the system clock against a fixed date configured when the package was created. Usually packages are set to expire approximately three months after production.

Although not vital, it is recommended that if you receive such a warning, you download the latest version of the software from our web site to ensure you have the latest patches, fixes and enhancements.

Example Error Message:

"This upgrade cannot be installed as it has expired. It is recommended you download the latest version from www.rangersuite.com or contact Sentinel Products Ltd directly."

Further information

The expiry date is stored within a file called VersionInfo.txt within each package's setup folder.

RRC7.0.1.0

Workaround

To workaround the date restriction, either:

1) Temporarily change the system date to before the expiry date. Don't forget to change the date back afterwards.

2) Modify the built in expiry date by extract the installation package to a temporary location and then modify the expiry date within the setupversioninfo.txt file.

First step is to extract the files.

    * If you have Winzip installed, use the "Extract to" feature to extract the files to a temporary folder e.g. c:temp.
    * If you don't have an extraction program you can run the program to initiate the self-extracting package to decompress into your temporary folder; usually found in C:Documents and SettingsLocal SettingsTemp folder. After locating the extracted files copy the entire directory to another location and then cancel the installation wizard. NOTE: Its normally a good idea to clean up the local temporary folder of older files and folders before the extraction.

Within the temporary folder locate the setupversioninfo.txt file and using a text editor modify the appropriate package name expiry date.

i.e. FullExpiry20031231 (would be for Ranger for Network), SoloExpiry20031231 (would be for a Ranger Solo package).
