Resolution
Instructions
LAN Ranger has two distinct modes of use.
LAN Ranger (Server)
LAN Rangers primary function is to run on the server interacting with Ranger services to facilitate auditing, logging and reporting on the activities which take place on the network. LAN Rangers functionality has been extended to now perform additional functions such as Package Rollout and React which update in real-time.
LAN Ranger (Client)
LAN Ranger in client mode provides a user with a limited version of LAN Ranger server and can be run from any workstation with Ranger client installed as long as the user has been granted access to run it via Ranger Admin. Some of the functionality of the client version is disabled because it only has a snapshot of the servers status log (from the moment the client was started) which in turn means reporting and graphs cannot be run. In addition the ability of taking a screenshots of computers is disabled.
Switching LAN Ranger to client mode
LAN Ranger is run in a client Mode by using a parameter switch at the end of a "shortcut" which points to the LanRanger.exe within the root of the Ranger directory.
Step 1. Create Shortcut by opening a folder to the Ranger directory and moving it to the desktop.
Step 2. Modify the shortcut property by adding "client" to the end of the target file.
Step 3. When you run the LAN Ranger client you will be asked to confirm the IP address of the LAN Ranger server and you will also need to enter the password.
Changing LAN Ranger Client Password
You will need to open LAN Ranger on the server if not already open and go to edit settings where you will be able to enter a new client password.
Granting Users Access to LAN Ranger Client
You will need to open Ranger Administrator and go to the security settings and then the group names for whom you wish to allow LAN Ranger Client. Make sure the "Allow use of LAN Ranger" is ticked.
