Question
Can Ranger help to configure Internet Explorers Bypass Proxy settings?
Symptoms
The web site cannot be found.
Internet Explorer is attempting to find the URL via the proxy instead of directly accessing the Intranet web page.
Cause
The Bypass proxy setting has not been configured. The setting may have never been set or the value is incorrect.
Restricted users may not be able to change Internet Explorers connection settings because of Rangers Active security restrictions. By default Internet Explorer's properties settings dialog is disabled.
Resolution
Use the proxy.adm file within Ranger Administrator to configure the Internet Explorers bypass proxy settings.
Instructions
Open Ranger Administrator and go to the Environment -> OS -> Group name and then select policies. This setting could applied to the "all groups" if desired.
Open the proxy.adm booklet. You can now configure for the required IE versions Proxy and Bypass proxy settings.
Verify the proxy address and port details are correct and then locate the bypass proxy field. Leaving the default value of "local" in place, at the beginning of the field type the Intranet web server URL i.e. http://web server, the IP address(s) or an IP range depending on how many sites or servers you wish to exclude.
Note: If you add multiple IP address use ';' to separate the values. If you want to exclude a IP range use '*' e.g. 192.168.0.*.
If the proxy.adm file is not listed in the Environment Policies section then you will need to add it.
Testing
Login as a user who is a member of the modified group, open Internet Explorer and try and to access a local web page.
