Question

When workstations log on the Ranger splash screen indicates that Auto Updates are disabled. What does this mean?

Resolution

Instructions

This indicator checks that the workstation belongs to the Ranger network it is being logged on too.

If it is, then it will allow server based upgrades, but if the workstation's licence key does not match the server's Ranger licence key (or any in the history) then it will not update.

It usually says "disabled" the first time after an install, but subsequently should say "enabled". Consistent problems most likely indicates a licence mismatch.

This problem is most likely to occur if a workstation was used on a test Ranger installation and was not RangerRemove'd before the test installation was wiped and replaced with a full one. In this instance the Ranger licence key on the workstation (copied from server when Ranger was installed) would not match the server's licence key and auto updates would be disabled.

Try performing a full removal of the workstation's Ranger installation via RangerRemove / RangerInstall to refresh the installation.
