Can Ranger Print Manager control workstation based printers?

Resolution

Yes, Ranger Print Manager can control and account for prints made to workstation based printers. However, it is recommended that network printers be used where possible for security and reliability.

Configuration:

1. Install and configure the printer driver on the workstation. Share the printer.
2. Install and configure the same printer driver on the server as a local printer.
3. Share it.
4. Configure workstations to print to the server printer instead of the shared workstation printer.
5. In Print Charger Administration, set the printer to be monitored with the Output printer set as the share on the workstation.

Note: Ranger security should be tested to ensure user's cannot change the print destination directly to the workstation.
