Question

How do i configure my Test Designer to use a single database and resource location?

Symptoms

N/A

Resolution

Create a shared folder to store the database and resources, this folder must be accessible by all users that need to access these resources.

Instructions

To setup a shared Resource and Database path follow the steps below:

  1. Create a shared folder to store the database and resource files, this folder must be accessible by all who need to access it.
  2. Start the Ranger Remote Control Test Designer and choose Admin Options from the menu..
  3. In the 'options' list select "Resource Path"
  4. Note the location of the resource path, then change this to the shared folder created at step 1.
  5. Save the changes and Exit the Test Designer.
  6. Copy the School.mdb file from the Ranger Remote Control installation folder (Default "Program Files/Ranger Remote Control") to the shared folder created in step 1.

At each machine that will run the Test Designer and access the shared resources and database, perform the following.

  1. Start the ODBC Data Source administrator from the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Select the "System DSN" tab.
  3. In the list of "System Data Sources" select the data source named "NSSSchoolDatabase" and press the "Configure" button.
  4. Press the "Select" button to select a database and browse to the shared folder and select the school.mdb file.
  5. Press "OK" to save the Data Source.

Testing

After setting the above database connection. Log on to your tutor and try to connect to the shared resource to make sure it works as expected.

Note: There are some limitations of using the Ranger Remote Control Test Designer in this Configuration

The Test Designer does not dynamically refresh from the database, therefore if a new question is created at one machine it will not automatically appear ?in the list of questions at other machines.

If the resources dialog is open and a resource is added by a user at another workstation, these new resources will not be displayed until the dialog is closed and re-opened.
