Question
Why do I get two logon scripts running during login?
Symptoms
Logon scripts run multi times during the login process and can cause the logon time to be increased.
Cause
The most likely cause of this is that the Registry Key "UserInit" has multiple entries (separated by a comma).
e.g.
C:WINDOWSsystem32RgrUInit.exe, C:WINDOWSsystem32userinit.exe,
This situation can occur when you upgrade A windows XP SP1 system to SP2 while ranger is installed, the windows upgrade adds in the userinit.exe to the registry key and leaves ranger rgrunit.exe intact.
Resolution
Possible solutions:
Instructions
Option 1 - Ranger Remove and Install
Logon to the faulty computer as the rangerremove user, restart the computer and logon as rangerinstall.
Option 2 - Manually edit the registry
NOT RECOMMENDED unless you are experienced with registry settings
C:WINDOWSsystem32RgrUInit.exe,
This assumes that XP is installed in the C:Windows folder. If it reads anything else, then you need to apply this to the solution.
