Instructions
Ranger Print Manager can be used both with or without a Ranger network. It should be installed on the member server or domain controller which acts as the print server (i.e. controls network printers).
Installation scenarios:
1) Installed on the primary domain controller which act as the print server and Ranger server.
Install Ranger Print Manager (RPM) to your server's Ranger directory. the setup process should detect the Ranger installation and install files automatically into a Ranger Print Manger sub folder. The setup routine will then add a new "on logon" scheduled job to each Ranger group's schedule list. This will automatically start the client program (to enable popup print status messages) when a user logs on.
Once setup is complete and the application services are started and configured correctly, users should see the Print Manager Client icon in their tool tray when then next log on.
2) Installed on a backup domain controller or member server on a network with Ranger.
Install Ranger Print Manager where appropriate. The installation routine will share the installation directory as "Ranger". The machine that RPM is installed on must be a server and must control shared network printers.
1) To configure the print manager client program to run when users log in, add an entry
to each group's "Scheduler" list via RangerAdmin (see screen shot above).
Adjust the path as appropriate:
e.g. Printserver1RangerRangerPrintManagerDataRPMClient.exe data"RangerRangerPrintManagerData"
2) To enable users to see their print balance, create them a shortcut in their Start Menu
to the yourPrintServerRangerRangerPrintManagerdatagpbal32.exe program.
3) Modify or add the following lines into the preshell9x.rrg and preshellNT.rrg files.
Ensure the is changed to the name of the server that Ranger Print
Manager is installed on.

3) Installed to a print server on a non-Ranger network.
Install Ranger Print Manager where appropriate. The installation routine will share the installation directory as "Ranger". The machine that RPM is installed on must be a server and must control shared network printers.
a) The print manager client program should be run when users log in. Configure this as a
shortcut in the STARTUP folder via system policies or manually on each machine.
Adjust the path as appropriate:
e.g. yourPrintServerRangerRangerPrintManagerDataRPMClient.exe data"yourPrintServerRangerRangerPrintManagerData"
b) To enable users to see their print balance, create them a shortcut in their Start Menu
to the yourPrintServerRangerRangerPrintManagerdatagpbal32.exe program.
c) The following registry keys need merging into each machine's registry. They tell the
Ranger print Manager programs where the database is located.
Ensure the is changed to the name of the server that Ranger Print
Manager is installed on.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESBSSRanger Print Manager
"DataFilePath""RangerRangerPrintManagerData"
"AppFilePath""RangerRangerPrintManager"
"MaintenanceDate""0"
Copy and paste these keys into a .reg file and merge manually on each machine or
use an automated registry updating tool such as Ranger's RegUpdt.exe
